Innere Stadt

in Vienna
Portrait

The quarter is the shape the walls left: Franz Joseph ordered them down in 1857 and put a boulevard where they had stood, so the boundary is a ring road that traces a fortification nobody alive has seen. Everything inside it is a single UNESCO inscription, and the ground beneath is the most expensive in Austria.

This is a quarter, not an entry in the atlas. It resolves upward to the city that holds it.
