The Peak
in Hong Kong
Portrait
The Peak Ordinance of 1904 reserved the hill for Europeans and was not repealed until 1946, which is the origin of the most expensive residential ground in Asia and is not softened by leaving it out. The funicular that made it habitable opened in 1888 and still climbs a gradient steep enough that the buildings alongside appear to lean.
This is a quarter, not an entry in the atlas. It resolves upward to the city that holds it.
