Austria
Austria's entries are what an empire left when it dissolved: a capital sized for a much larger state, a summer residence where a court went to be seen, an arsenal still holding weapons for sixteen thousand men, and a spa town where Beethoven worked on the Ninth. The Alpine entries are a separate strand, and one of them — Lech — is the atlas's clearest case of a resort limiting itself on purpose.
