Georgia
Georgia's entries hold an early adoption and a long endurance. Christianity became the state religion here in 337, before Rome, and Mtskheta's cathedral is said to stand over the robe of Christ. Tbilisi means warm place, for the sulphur springs whose domed bathhouses remain the city's social institution, and its carved wooden balconies survived the twenty-nine sackings the city counts in its history.
