Guatemala

Guatemala's pair is a Maya city and the Spanish capital that an earthquake ended. Tikal's tallest temple stands some sixty-five metres above a rainforest that reclaimed the city after the ninth century; Antigua was the colonial seat until the earthquakes of 1773 forced the capital's move, and its ruined convents were deliberately left standing. Both are places that were abandoned and are visited because of it.
