New Zealand
New Zealand supplies the atlas with landscape cities in the strict sense — places whose entry rests on what can be seen from them rather than on what stands in them. Queenstown and Wellington both qualify that way, and Rotorua adds a geothermal field that Māori settlement organised itself around long before it was a spa. The country contributes no ancient architecture and does not need to: its case is made by terrain and by the uses people have put it to.
