Philippines
The Philippines enter the atlas through four separate inheritances and almost no overlap between them. Vigan preserves a Spanish colonial street grid that survived the war intact; Manila carries the walled city that did not; Makati is a financial district laid over an aerodrome; and the island entries are limestone and water. It is one of the few countries here where the capital cannot stand for the business district or the coast, and the atlas does not ask it to.
