Slovakia
Slovakia's pair is a capital on a border and a mining town that was once richer. Bratislava sits within sight of Austria and a short drive from Hungary, the only capital bordering two states; Banská Štiavnica was among Europe's principal silver towns and founded the world's first mining academy in 1762, which the Paris and Freiberg schools were later modelled on. The country's entry rests on the second more than the first.
