Telč burned in 1530, and the lord of the town rebuilt the entire square in Italian Renaissance style with a unified arcade and gabled façades in pastel colours — one design, executed at once, which is why it looks like a stage set. Two fishponds and the château close the ends, and the town has barely changed since.
