Monet's Garden

Portrait

Monet rented the house in 1883, bought it later, and spent forty-three years making the garden — diverting a stream for the water lily pond and planting by colour so that he would have subjects. He painted around 250 water lily canvases here, the last of them nearly blind from cataracts, and the garden is maintained to his planting plans.
