Portrait
This was Xelb, Almohad capital of al-Gharb, and the siege of 1189 is documented to the day: seventy-five vessels and three thousand crusaders by sea to join Sancho I overland, the water failing in August, terms on the second of September. Yaqub al-Mansur took it back in July 1191 and the Portuguese needed another fifty years.
