The name comes from the weavers of stolechniki, tablecloths, who lived here in the seventeenth century, and it is a lane rather than an avenue — a few hundred metres between Petrovka and Bolshaya Dmitrovka. Pedestrianised in the 1990s, it became the address the international houses took when they first came to Moscow.
This is a street, not an entry in the atlas. It resolves upward to the city that holds it.
