Farmland until the 1970s, when Seoul crossed the Han and built Gangnam on the far bank in a single planned push. The luxury houses arrived in the 1990s and the entertainment companies after them, which is why the same few hundred metres carry both the flagship stores and the buildings where K-pop is made.
