Quarter · Sweden
Östermalm
in Stockholm
Portrait
Built from the 1880s on drained marsh as a district of stone apartment houses for officers and officials, with a hall market at its centre that has sold the same fish since 1888. It has never been anything other than what it was built to be, which in a Scandinavian capital is rarer than it sounds.
This is a quarter, not an entry in the atlas. It resolves upward to the city that holds it.
