The club was founded in 1900 on land leased from St John's College, Cambridge, and opened Willie Park Jr's Old Course in 1901 against the prevailing belief that first-rank golf could not be built inland on heath. Bobby Jones went round it in 1926 Open qualifying in sixty-six — thirty-three strokes and thirty-three putts, every hole in three or four — and the round has been called perfect ever since.
This is an estate, not an entry in the atlas. It resolves upward to the city that holds it.
