Hyde Park

Roosevelt was born at Springwood in 1882, and in 1939 he gave the papers and the land to the nation and drew the building himself in Dutch colonial stone. It opened in 1941 as the first presidential library in the United States and every one since has been built on its model; he is buried in the rose garden a short walk away.
