May Rindge blocked the coast road across her thirteen-thousand-acre ranch until the United States Supreme Court ruled against her on the eleventh of June 1923, holding that a scenic highway is a lawful public use for eminent domain. Three years later her Marblehead Land Company began letting thirty-foot beachfront lots at thirty dollars a month on ten-year leases, deliberately for structures that could be taken away again.
This is an estate, not an entry in the atlas. It resolves upward to the city that holds it.
