Brooklyn

It was the third largest city in the United States until it voted, by a margin of under three hundred votes in 1894, to give up its independence and join New York. Brooklynites called the result the Great Mistake for a century afterwards, and the borough still keeps its own newspaper, its own museum and its own accent.
