Quarter · USA
Upper East Side
Portrait
The quarter is the direct consequence of Central Park: the park opened, the money followed it north up Fifth and Madison, and the mansions that survived the twentieth century are now museums along what is called Museum Mile. Its side streets keep the highest concentration of pre-war co-operative buildings in the country, and the boards of those buildings vet buyers in a way no price does.
This is a quarter, not an entry in the atlas. It resolves upward to the city that holds it.
