Graz was the Habsburgs' bulwark against the Ottomans, and its Landeszeughaus still holds the original arsenal — around 32,000 pieces of armour and weaponry kept as they were stored in 1642, enough to equip sixteen thousand soldiers, and the largest such collection anywhere. The old town's red roofs are intact, and the 2003 art museum in the middle looks like a blue organism.
