Kitzbühel
Legend of the Streif
Portrait
Kitzbühel was a silver and copper town before it was a ski resort, and its painted medieval main street is the reason it looks unlike purpose-built rivals. The Hahnenkamm downhill each January drops 860 metres with a start ramp at 85 per cent gradient and speeds over 140 kilometres an hour — racers describe it as the one they most want to win and most fear.
