Kanas

Portrait
Kanas lies in the far north of Xinjiang where China meets Kazakhstan, Russia and Mongolia, in taiga rather than desert — larch forest, log houses and Tuvan and Kazakh herders who move with the seasons. Sightings of a large creature in the lake have been reported since the 1980s and are generally attributed to unusually big taimen, a salmon relative reaching two metres.
