Vietnam
Vietnam's entries are preserved by economic accident and by war. Hội An's wooden shophouses survived because the river silted and the trade left, so the town was too poor to rebuild. Huế's citadel was built on the plan of Beijing's Forbidden City and lost much of it in twenty-six days in 1968. Hanoi's old quarter still runs on the guild logic that named its thirty-six streets.
