After a fire destroyed the Vitra factory in 1981, the company rebuilt by commissioning a different architect for each structure — Zaha Hadid's first completed building, a fire station, stands beside work by Gehry, Ando, Siza, Herzog & de Meuron and Grimshaw. It is an architecture museum in which the exhibits are the buildings, on a working industrial site at the corner where Germany, France and Switzerland meet.
