A drowned town lies in the bay: Halieis, abandoned in the third century BC, its harbour walls legible from a boat when the water is still. Amanzoe opened on the ridge above in 2012, though Athenian crews have used this anchorage far longer, which is why the place reads as a harbour first and a resort second.
