Jodhpur
The Blue City
Portrait
Mehrangarh stands 120 metres above Jodhpur on a sheer rock, its walls up to 36 metres high, and the cannonball marks from a Jaipur siege are still visible on the gates. The blue houses below were once said to mark Brahmin homes; the more practical explanation is copper sulphate added to limewash as an insect repellent.
