The Yasawi Dome
Portrait
Timur ordered a mausoleum built over the grave of the Sufi poet Ahmed Yasawi in 1389, and work stopped when Timur died in 1405 — the scaffolding holes are still visible in the unfinished main façade, and the building is a working record of fifteenth-century construction methods. Three pilgrimages here are traditionally counted as equal to one to Mecca in Central Asia.
