Uxmal

The Magician's Pyramid
Lost Cities & Ruins
Gateway town: Mérida
Portrait

Uxmal's Pyramid of the Magician is elliptical rather than square, and the Nunnery Quadrangle carries the most refined mosaic stonework in the Maya world — thousands of cut pieces set without mortar into lattices and serpents. There is no cenote here: the city ran entirely on rainwater cisterns, which is why it was abandoned when the rains changed.
