Zacatecas was founded in 1546 after silver was found and built in pink cantera stone, its baroque cathedral façade carved so densely that no flat surface remains. The city sits in a narrow ravine at 2,440 metres, a cable car crosses above the roofs from one hill to the other, and the Eden mine beneath the streets can be entered by train.
