Malbork

The Teutonic Castle
Fortress CitiesHeritage Gems
Portrait

The Teutonic Knights made Malbork their headquarters in 1309 and built twenty-one hectares of brick fortress on the Nogat, a scale that only a religious military state with its own economy could sustain. The audio tour covers all three castles — high, middle and low — and see the refectory whose single pillar heats the room through channels in the floor.
