Wieliczka produced table salt continuously from the thirteenth century until 2007, and the miners carved chapels, altars and chandeliers out of the rock salt as they worked — the Chapel of St Kinga is fifty metres long, a hundred metres down, with everything in it including the floor tiles cut from salt. The tourist route covers three kilometres of the three hundred available.
