Three children said the Virgin appeared to them six times between May and October 1917, and on the final date a crowd estimated at seventy thousand reported the sun appearing to move — an event the Church investigated for thirteen years before approving the devotion. The sanctuary now receives millions annually, and the two children who died young in the 1918 flu were canonised in 2017.
