The aqueduct's 167 arches carry water 15 kilometres into the city and were built from granite blocks cut to fit and held by nothing but their own weight — no mortar anywhere in it. It supplied Segovia until the twentieth century, and the Alcázar on its rock is said to have inspired Disney's castle.
