Tarifa

The Punta de Tarifa is the southernmost point of the European mainland and Africa is fourteen kilometres away across the strait, close enough to read the hills on a clear afternoon. The levante blows through that gap hard enough and often enough that a Moorish garrison town became a kitesurfing capital, which is an unusual second career for a place fortified in 960.
