Lugano

Lugano is in Switzerland but speaks Italian, eats Italian and looks Italian, with Swiss administration underneath — the combination made it a banking centre for Italian money for most of the twentieth century. Two mountains rise straight from the lake on either side of town, both with funiculars, and Milan is an hour by train.
