The African Colosseum
Lost Cities & Ruins
Gateway town: Sousse
Portrait

The amphitheatre at Thysdrus was built around AD 238 from stone hauled sixty kilometres, seated more people than the town could hold, and survived because later inhabitants lived inside it. You can walk the underground passages where animals were raised into the arena — unlike the Colosseum, nothing here is roped off.
