The Ribat on the Shore
Portrait
The ribat of 821 and the walled medina behind it are UNESCO-listed, built when this was the Aghlabid dynasty's naval base against Byzantine Sicily. The ribat tower gives the plan of the old town; see the mosaics in the archaeological museum — the second collection in Tunisia after the Bardo — and use the beaches as the Tunisians do, in the evening.
