The Tay leaves the loch here, and in 1760 the third Earl of Breadalbane laid out a village at the crossing: one street of whitewashed cottages closed at one end by the church and at the other by the gates of Taymouth Castle. That is the whole of it and the point of it, and the bridge that completes the view came fourteen years later.
