Chet Huntley, the NBC newsreader, raised the money for the resort and opened it below Lone Peak in 1973, and twenty-four years later a private club with its own lifts was cut into the same mountain. Membership of the Yellowstone Club, not a lift ticket, admits a skier to that terrain, and it is the gate rather than the price that earns the town its place among the luxury entries.
