Lānaʻi City

Dole laid the town out in 1922 to house a pineapple plantation that covered most of the island and was briefly the largest in the world; a grid of tin-roofed houses around a park is what remains. About ninety-eight per cent of the island changed hands in 2012 for a reported three hundred million dollars, so the question of who owns Lānaʻi has one answer, which is true nowhere else in the state.
