S.F.B. Morse formed the Pebble Beach Company in 1919 and held the forest, the shore road, the hotels and the golf under one ownership that has never been broken up. That arrangement — hospitality, sport, landscape and private houses run together on a long lease of time — was assembled here forty-three years before Costa Smeralda did the same thing on the Gallura coast and got the credit for inventing it.
