Wailea

The south shore of Maui was dry scrub and cattle land until Alexander & Baldwin began laying water and roads across it around 1970, and every beach and hotel here postdates that decision. Hawaiian law keeps all shoreline public to the high-water mark, so the crescents below the resorts carry public access paths and parking by statute, which is the fact that separates this coast from the private ones it otherwise resembles.
