Canela

The parish church of Our Lady of Lourdes was begun in 1953 and finished in 1987, thirty-four years of basalt laid up into a Gothic front with a spire of sixty-five metres, and everyone calls it the Stone Cathedral though it is no cathedral. Six kilometres out the Caracol falls drop a hundred and thirty-one metres in a single throw through araucaria forest.
