Hangzhou

Marco Polo called Hangzhou the finest city in the world, and West Lake has been landscaped, painted and written about for a millennium — the causeways are named after the poets who built them. Alibaba was founded in a flat here in 1999 and the city is now China's e-commerce capital, which sits oddly and comfortably beside the tea terraces of Longjing.
