Zhaoxing
Drum Towers of the Dong
Portrait
Zhaoxing has five drum towers and five wind-and-rain bridges, one set for each of the village's clans, built of fir without a single nail — the joinery is entirely mortise and tenon. The Dong sing in polyphonic choirs without a conductor, a tradition UNESCO listed in 2009, and the terraced rice fields around the valley are worked by hand.
