Pula's amphitheatre is one of six Roman arenas with a complete outer wall, and in 1583 the Venetian senate voted to dismantle it and rebuild it in Venice — a single senator talked them out of it. Underground chambers where animals were kept now hold an exhibition on olive oil and wine production, and the arena seats five thousand for summer concerts.
