Napoleon was born here in 1769, a year after Genoa sold Corsica to France, and the island has been negotiating that transaction ever since — in language, in politics and in what the market sells. The Casa Bonaparte and the Fesch museum come first — which holds the best Italian primitives outside Italy, then drive out to the Sanguinaires islands for the sunset the town is named for.
