Qingdao
Beer by the Yellow Sea
Portrait
Germany held Qingdao from 1898 to 1914 and left a red-roofed old town, a governor's residence and the brewery founded in 1903 that still makes the country's best-known beer. Walk the Badaguan villa district where eight streets are named after passes of the Great Wall, drink at the brewery source, and eat clams on the pier with plastic bags of draught.
