Limoges
White Gold of the Vienne
Portrait
Kaolin was discovered at Saint-Yrieix in 1768, and Limoges became France's porcelain city — the whiteness comes from the local clay, and the enamel tradition here is four centuries older still. The Adrien Dubouché museum holds the largest public collection of Limoges porcelain, and the workshops that remain make for the same houses they did a century ago.
