Faenza's tin-glazed pottery was exported so widely from the fifteenth century that French took faïence from the town's name as the generic term. The international ceramics museum here holds work from every tradition and every period, and a competition since 1938 has kept the town a centre for contemporary ceramics rather than a museum of a dead craft.
